Our senses are assaulted with greenery: sweet-scented bushes and close-cropped hedgerows, colorful walled gardens and tall, leafy trees—all surrounded by a plush carpet of grass fairly begging for a picnic.

The gardens are densely planted and richly green. Color is used judiciously, as we might expect in a garden designed by a painter.

What surprised me when I first touched heather was how soft it feels, like feathers.

The western horizon hung thick with rain that would soon water the elegant walled garden.

Tulip Garden

We set forth into the gardens, sweetly scented and neatly edged with grass. A late display of showy tulips in red, pink, and purple fills in nicely.

Rosebay Willowherb

Bright green, slender leaves march up the long stalks toward rosy pink blossoms at the top, which will bloom again at summer’s end.

Autumn Garden

Jamie watched his mother storm about the fading gardens. A crisp autumn wind rustled through the pines and sent a golden pile of rowan leaves swirling about his buckskin breeches and her billowing gray skirts.
